#SELFIE is a podcast that aims to highlight the fantastic work done by young people across the world. The project was born out of a desire to refute the stereotype that young people or millennials are self-obsessed and only interested in volunteering or contributing to their community if it looks good on their LinkedIn profile. I have been volunteering for many years and have worked with organizations such as Amnesty International, and World Vision and I am not the only young person who has combined university with work and volunteering. My aim is to provide a platform for such young individuals to discuss their work and their passions.

If you would like to be on the show or know of someone who is doing amazing things in their community then please get in contact: selfie.podcast@gmail.com

Quick facts about me:

What is your name?

My full name is Elizabeth Richardson, but please call me Lizzie

What is your education background?

I completed my Bachelors of Science and Arts at the University of Sydney in 2016 and I am currently studying a Masters of Medical Biotechnology in the Netherlands.

Wait… the Netherlands, but then how do you interview people in Australia?

Through the power of Skype and Audacity. Unfortunately, given the horrendous time-zone difference, I have to record most of the interviews very early in the morning before heading into university.

Is this show just for Australians?

No, not at all. Most of the guests so far have been Australian, but that is just because I either know a lot of them personally or have heard of their work.

How often can we expect episodes?

I am aiming to put an episode out every week (because I have another podcast launching soon so have to alternate weeks). But, given I am also studying that may not always be possible. If it has been a while without a show then it is probably because I am in exams or been eaten by some bacteria I was messing around with in the lab – in which case please send help in the form of chocolate.

Do you have any other projects you are working on?

Yes, I do. A lot of my other projects are still in the “non-live mode” (aka, still in my head). Have a look at my personal website: https://lizzierichardson.com/ which serves as a portfolio of all of my current and past projects.
